I just watched 2Girls1Cup, followed the hype and put up a yTube video. There ya go, I actually found it quite funny.

How I hate translations!

Well, just a quick post here. I was just watching psych but I didn't really pay attention, but fortunately (or rather unfortunately), I noticed this. Spencer came in holding his eye, saying something along the lines of 'Ahh, ouch, it's what old ladies have in their handbags' and that blonde chick started guessing things. She said 'A spray? Peppermint?' to which he replied 'Yeah, a spray, but not peppermint!' and she said 'Mace!' and gave them the clue to who the murderer was.
Now, that doesn't sound so bad in English, but if you translate it to German, it doesn't make much sense. Around here, we do not know the term 'mace', and it's 'pepper spray'. So the joke makes no fucking sense anymore.

And that also happens to Harry Potter 7, where the really awesome joke of George after him losing an ear just gets really flat in German. After Fred asks 'How are you feeling?' George says 'I feel holey.' In German, he says 'I feel like Swiss cheese.' (which is known for having a bootload of holes.) That completely kills it, I didn't even smile, I just rolled my eyes and read on.

What do you think, do translations kill jokes and the little bit of fun that may be left in some movies/TV shows/games?

Dragon Age: Origins. I am in love. Biiig time. I was looking for a WoW-replacement and I'd watched a Let's Play about it, so I got it. And I am in love, as I just said. The gameplay is fantastic, I love the characters, and I fucking wish that Alistair and Allaine (my character, an elf mage) would GET IT ON.
But anyways, I've just really started playing, so you will have to hear me swooning about it for longer.




And you get my cute kitty accompanying the text. I think she's been a bit lonely these days, so now that I'm back from my Gran's, I'm taking extra big care of her. I even let her sleep in my freshly made bed, and that's an honor.
That left to the text is my delicious meal, noodles with scrambled egg and butter. Taaasty.

It's a page that mostly lists.. well, lists of stuff.


But first things first: It all started with me reading xkcd webcomics, when there was one about TV Tropes and cracked.com.
As I had already known (and once becom addicted to) that page, I just went there.
That was about two hours ago. Now I'm sitting here, scared of countless insects or diseases that just MIGHT reach me, and I still have about ten tabs with lists to read open.

Pokemon SoulSilver is like, so EASY. I've played for 19 hours now and have 9 badges. And 19 Pokemon caught. Well, I was slacking on that side.
But anyways, Diamond was easy, Platinum was a bit harder, and I just remembered that I bought Pearl ages ago and never really started it. Where is it, actually?

And I'm just watching 'The Color Purple' with Whoopi Goldberg. *sniffle* It's quite sad, but so beautiful. A gem of a movie.

I've always been shedding a few tears when I've watched something recently.YOU SEE I HAVE FEELINGS AND I AM RATHER COOL BECAUSE I FEEL THE MOVIES.
Nah, but did I ever tell you that I almost can't look at my TV when the protagonist of a movie or show is about to experience something awkward or embarassing? That just breaks my nerves.
